Leading with Care: Digital Binder
A Trauma-Informed and Equity-Centered Inclusive Leadership Course
Lesson 2 of 9
Mindset, Assumptions, and Creating Emotional Safety
Separating observation from assumption, five conditions for emotional safety, and curiosity before correction.
Lesson Overview
A leader’s response begins before they speak. What they notice, the meaning they attach to it, and the expectations they bring can turn the same behavior into an invitation to inquire or a reason to correct.
In this lesson, you separate observation from assumption, examine five conditions that support emotional safety, and apply the Pause & Check Reflection to challenging moments—using curiosity before correction while keeping expectations and accountability clear.
Silence does not always mean disengagement. Resistance does not always mean defiance. Confidence does not always mean understanding.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

- Distinguish an observation from an assumption.
